Swimming and water safety

We provide swimming instruction in key stage 2.

In particular, pupils should be taught to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres

  • use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]

  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

Swimming Kit

Boys
All boys must have swimming trunks.  The swimming instructors may prevent children from entering the pool if they do not have the correct swimwear.

Girls
All girls must wear one piece swim suits which fully cover the stomach area.  The pool instructors will prevent girls from swimming if they do not have the correct swimwear.

School Swimming Results

2016-2017

37% of our Year 6 cohort met the national curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, using a range of strokes effectively and performing safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

2017-2018

61.5% of our Year 6 cohort met the national curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, using a range of strokes effectively and performing safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

2018-2019

68% of our Year 6 cohort met the national curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, using a range of strokes effectively (for example, front crawl, backstroke and beast stroke) and performing safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
