Heygarth Primary School in partnership with Holy Family Catholic Mat and Liverpool Hope University offers teacher training to graduates holding a 2:1 degree or above who are keen to engage in classroom based training.
About This Training Programme
Our training programme offers you the opportunity to train in an outstanding teaching environment enabling you to develop a deep understanding of excellence in the classroom.
This is a full-time training programme, which leads to a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE Primary). The programme lasts a year, with a minimum of 120 school based learning days.
There will be a further training days held at Liverpool Hope University. Achievement of a PGCE Primary Award enables the University to recommend Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Entry Requirements
Applications are invited from graduates with a degree with a minimum of 2:1 classification, or from students in the final year of their degree anticipating at least a 2.1 classification. However, we will consider applicants with a 2.2 classification on an individual profile basis, provided they can demonstrate excellent potential to become a successful teacher.
A Higher National Diploma (HND) or Higher National Certificate (HNC) are not acceptable as equivalent to a degree for the purpose of entry to this course.
At the time of application, candidates should also have GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language, Mathematics and a Science. A range of other GCSE or equivalent qualifications to reflect the breadth of the curriculum is desirable.
It is essential that applicants have suitable experience of working in a Primary School setting, either on a voluntary or salaried basis. It is desirable that such experience includes a range of year groups covering KS1 and KS2. The more experience an applicant can gain before applying for a place on the course, the greater the chance they will have of being successful.
