This term, PE will take place on Monday (outdoors) and Wednesday (outdoors) and children should arrive in school wearing their PE kits.  Please ensure that your child is able to remove and put back on any trainers especially if they have laces.

Homework will be set on Wednesday for return the following Wednesday.  It will be sent home with your child. Homework will include English, maths and topic work.

As we are approaching the colder weather, please ensure your child comes to school wearing the appropriate clothing.

We deliver mathematics through Maths — No Problem!, a mastery framework aligned with the National Curriculum. Rooted in Singapore mathematics principles, the approach develops deep conceptual fluency rather than rote memorisation. Children explore mathematical concepts through a structured Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) sequence: first using physical apparatus like Base 10 blocks, moving to visual models, and finally transitioning to abstract representation and symbolic notation.

Autumn Term Teaching begins with place value for numbers up to 100. Pupils learn to partition, compare, and order numbers using tens and ones. This grounds the subsequent work on addition and subtraction, where children develop mental and formal written strategies, including crossing the 10 boundary. The focus then turns to multiplication and division, building fluency in the 2, 5, and 10 times tables through arrays and equal groupings. Autumn closes with practical measurement of length in metres and centimetres.

Spring Term Pupils apply measurement skills to mass, comparing weights in grams and kilograms. In statistics, they construct and interpret pictograms and block graphs. As arithmetic confidence grows, children solve multi-step word problems involving all four operations. The term concludes with money, covering coin recognition, calculating totals, and finding change.

Summer Term Children explore fractions, finding half, quarter, and third fractions of shapes and sets of objects. They move on to telling the time on analogue clocks to five-minute intervals, including quarter past and quarter to. Further practical units cover volume and capacity in millilitres and litres. The year ends with geometry, where pupils classify 2D and 3D shapes, identify line symmetry, and describe movement and turns.

Home Learning Support You can support your child by incorporating practical mathematics into daily routines—such as counting in intervals of 2, 5, and 10, reading analogue clocks, or asking them to explain the method they used to solve a problem.

If you are able to, please encourage your child to use their numbots and TT rockstars accounts which will really help to develop their knowledge and skills across these two subjects. If you don’t have your child’s login please speak to their class teacher.

We deliver English in line with the National Curriculum, fostering a lifelong love of reading, writing, and spoken language. Children explore a rich range of literature, engaging with classic stories, contemporary fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. As writers, they learn to adapt their tone and structure for different audiences—crafting vivid narrative prose, composing original poems using imagery and rhythm, and writing clear non-fiction texts such as persuasive letters, instructional guides, and formal reports. Spoken language is developed alongside written work, with pupils taking part in poetry recitations, debate, and Oracy to build articulate, confident communication skills.

Explicit teaching of phonics, spelling patterns, grammar, and punctuation underpins this work, equipping children with the technical tools needed to write with accuracy, clarity, and flair.

Reading books must be returned on Thursday and will be swapped on Fridays.

Your child will either receive both a RWInc book and a RWInc book bag book based upon your child’s latest RWInc assessment. Once they are no longer using RWInc they will receive a book appropriate to their reading level and a ‘reading for pleasure’ self-chosen book.

Once your child is a confident reader they should concentrate on comprehension as well as understanding new vocabulary. As well as their school reading books, please encourage your child to read as widely as possible. The libraries in Eastham and Bromborough are open so you will be able to visit them for free books!
